Sun. 26th October 2008 : Heddon Valley near Lynton, North Devon. Management day.

The extensive land owned by the National Trust in the Heddon Valley area is extremely important in that it supports colonies of Small Pearl-bordered, High Brown, Dark Green and Silver-washed Fritillaries. The work will be targeted at keeping the colonies viable. Meet at 10.30 am in the car park opposite the National Trust shop(SS655481) by the Hunter’s Inn. Bring lunch. A  National Trust Ranger will be directing the work. Tools will be available or bring your own if you prefer.

Sun. 16th November 2008 : Lydford Old Railway reserve. Management day.

A day to continue the work of conserving the Heath Fritillary colony. Meet at 10.30 am in the National Trust’s Waterfall car park(SX500832) which is a further mile southwest of the main Lydford Gorge entrance. Bring lunch.

Please bring rakes and cutting tools if possible.

Sun. 23rd November 2008 : Little Breach reserve, Blackdown Hills, East Devon. Management Day. 

Meet at 10.30 am at the end of the lane leading to Purchas Farm(ST108154). Leave the M5 at junction 27 and take the A38 towards Wellington. After about 3 miles, just after passing over the M5, turn right onto the B3391 signposted Culmstock / Hemyock. After 1.1 miles turn left, signposted Woodgate / Beacon. Continue for 0.7 mile, going straight across 2 sets of crossroads and passing a ‘no through road’ sign and park where you can at the end of the lane. From here it is about 1/2 mile to the site(ST115155) and this includes a rather steep uphill section of about 300 metres. Bring lunch. Please bring cutting tools if possible.

Sun. 30th November 2008 : Dunsford DWT reserve. Management day.

The Devon Wildlife Trust manage this National Trust owned reserve which is extremely important in that it supports colonies of Small Pearl-bordered, Pearl-bordered, High Brown, Dark Green and Silver-washed Fritillaries. The work will be targeted at keeping the colonies viable. Meet at 10.30 am near the bend(SX784893) on the Dunsford to Drewsteignton road. Bring lunch. A DWT Reserves Officer will be directing the work. Tools will be available or bring your own if you prefer.

Sun. 7th December 2008 : Great Plantation near Bovey Tracey. Management day. THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

The forest supports colonies of Pearl-bordered and Silver-washed Fritillaries. The work will be targeted at keeping the colonies viable. Meet at 10.30 am at the main entrance(SX825758) on the A382 Bovey Tracey road. Bring lunch. A FC Conservation Officer will be directing the work. Tools will be available or bring your own if you prefer.

Sat. 24th January 2009 : Bovey Heathfield near Bovey Tracey. Management day.

Today’s work will be on the Teignbridge District Council owned part of Bovey Heathfield and is targeted at establishing conditions suitable to support Silver-studded Blue whose status on the site is unclear at the moment. Meet at 10.30 am in Dragoon Close off Cavalier Road, Heathfield Industrial estate(SX824764). From the A38 take the A382 towards Bovey Tracey. About 100 metres along this road turn right at the traffic lights into Battle Road and after about a further 100 metres turn left into Cavalier Road. Dragoon Close is on the left about 500 metres along this road. Bring lunch. A Teignbridge District Council Reserves Officer will be directing the work. Tools will be available or bring your own if you prefer.

Mon. 2nd February 2009 : Bicton Common near Exmouth. Management day.

The East Devon Pebblebed Heaths are the stronghold for Silver-studded Blue in the County. Today’s work is targeted at maintaining suitable habitat by removing invading scrub.

Meet at 10.30 am in the Upper Thorntree car park (SY036850). From Exeter take the A376 towards Exmouth and at Clyst St George take the B3179 towards Woodbury. Follow the road through Woodbury and after you leave the village take the first turning on the right signposted Exmouth / Budleigh Salterton. Continue along this road for 0.7 miles until you reach the T-junction; turn right onto the B3180. After 0.8 miles there is a crossroads with the right turn signposted to Exmouth. Take the left turning here and the car park is on your right after about 1 mile. Bring lunch. Please bring cutting tools if possible. Wellington boots advisable.
