Welcome to the Website for the Devon Branch of Butterfly Conservation .  We hope that you will find it interesting and informative.

We run field trips and attend shows in Devon.  To see events planned for the year  click here.

The latest branch news can be seen on the News page.

There are links to tell you which butterflies and moths are found in Devon. For butterflies there are record maps and photos of most species.

The Devon Branch urgently needs a volunteer to take on the role of Publicity Officer.  Even a little time spent on this would help the Branch and advice is available from BC head office to support someone performing this role. If you are able to help please contact our Chairman Roger Bristow or email contact@devon-butterflies.org.uk.

Butterfly Conservation is teaming up with Marks and Spencer to launch the biggest ever public butterfly and moth count to date.

You can join in and help us track butterflies and moths, so we know where they need our help the most.

Find a sunny spot in your garden, local park or other open space and spend 15 minutes counting butterflies and moths.

For more information, to download an ID chart and submit your sightings please visit the big butterfly count website.

HAVE YOU SEEN ANY HUMMING BIRD HAWK MOTHS THIS YEAR?  IF SO TV PRODUCTION COMPANY IS LOOKING FOR SOME TO FILM IN DEVON AND PARTICULARLY IN THE TORBAY AREA.  If you see any in your garden and would be happy to have a crew in your garden filming them email us at contact@devon-butterflies.org.uk and we will pass the sighting on.  See Photo

Can you help us survey and monitor for Pearl Bordered Fritillary and Marsh Fritillary ?  Free training events in 2010
Butterfly Conservation is organising training events for Pearl-bordered Fritillary and Marsh Fritillary in 2010 led by Jenny Plackett (Two Moors Threatened Fritillaries Project Officer). Please come along to learn everything you need to know in order to assist with the annual monitoring of these threatened UK Biodiversity Action Plan butterflies.

More volunteers are needed to assist with the annual monitoring of these species to enable us to conserve them. Annual monitoring enables population trends to be calculated and informs appropriate management advice, therefore ensuring the conservation of these species. Places are limited so booking is essential.  Details here
