Hello, just a little something that might be of interest. I was sat in my garden
last weekend in Ivybridge, Devon. When a large butterfly flew into my garden. I
realised it was not a U.K species and got my camera to take a few shots. I
wondered if you might be able to throw any light onto where it may have come
from and what sort of butterfly it is. We do have a butterfly farm about 10
miles away at Buckfastleigh, is it possible it came from there.
Roger Bristow replied:-
Thanks for this interesting photo. The nearest that I can tie it down to is a
male swallowtail called Papilio polytes theseus from Sumatra and Borneo
(it is a good, but not exact, fit). I guess that it must have come from the
Butterfly Farm.
